MSC Cruises confirms its newest mega-ship has successfully completed sea trials in the Atlantic, with the vessel set to begin sailing from PortMiami in April.
MSC World America, the newest vessel from MSC Cruises, has completed its final round of sea trials in the North Atlantic, clearing the last major hurdle before its highly anticipated debut in Miami. The 215,000 gross-ton ship will be the largest MSC vessel ever to homeport in North America.
During the three-week trial period, engineers tested all critical systems including propulsion, navigation, safety equipment, and the ship's LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuel system. MSC World America is one of the most environmentally advanced cruise ships afloat, featuring shore power connectivity, advanced wastewater treatment, and a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system.
The ship introduces several new concepts for MSC, including a dedicated family district called Kidsville that spans two full decks with water parks, gaming arcades, and a LEGO-themed play area. For adults, the Yacht Club luxury ship-within-a-ship concept has been expanded to include 152 suites with butler service, a private pool deck, and an exclusive restaurant.
MSC World America will begin its inaugural season with seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from PortMiami, with calls at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the line's private island in the Bahamas. Fares start at $899 per person for an inside cabin, with the Yacht Club suites starting at $4,200 per person.
