Why Aulani.

Aulani is what happens when Disney builds a beach resort instead of a park, and for a lot of families it is the easiest Disney trip of all: there is nowhere to be at rope drop. It sits on one of the four protected Ko Olina lagoons on the west side of Oahu, about 25 minutes from the airport, with a lazy river, a private snorkel lagoon stocked with reef fish, an excellent kids club and character breakfasts. Adults get an infinity pool, a spa and quiet. Because it is Hawaii, we usually build the rest of the island in around it: the North Shore, Pearl Harbor, a Waikiki night or two, and often a few days on Maui or Kauai on the same ticket. Rooms and villas book up early and the price gap between a garden view and an ocean view is real, so this is one to plan well ahead.
