Why Kodiak.
Kodiak is a big green island in the Gulf of Alaska with quiet bays, big brown bears and some of the most productive halibut grounds in the state. Silver and king salmon run along the shore, and the rivers hold salmon and steelhead.
Most visitors stay at remote lodges reached by floatplane or boat, though the town of Kodiak has charters and hotels for shorter trips.
